Zoho Mail Data Centres: Which One Is Your Account On?

Zoho does not run one Zoho Mail. It runs the same product in a dozen data centres, each on its own web address, and your account lives in exactly one of them. Most of the time you never have to care. The day a browser tool works for your colleague and not for you, it is the first thing to check.
Table of contents
One product, thirteen addresses
When an organisation signs up, Zoho places its data in a regional data centre, and the mailbox you open every morning is served from that region's address. The interface is the same everywhere. What changes is where your mail is stored and the domain in your address bar.
These are the Zoho Mail addresses in use today:
| Address | Data centre |
|---|---|
| mail.zoho.com | United States, the original data centre |
| mail.zoho.eu | European Union |
| mail.zoho.in | India |
| mail.zoho.com.au | Australia |
| mail.zoho.jp | Japan |
| mail.zoho.com.cn | China |
| mail.zoho.sa | Saudi Arabia |
| mail.zoho.uk | United Kingdom |
| mail.zohocloud.ca, mail.zoho.ca | Canada |
| mail.zoho.sg | Singapore |
| mail.zoho.ae | United Arab Emirates |
| mail.zoho.id | Indonesia |
Canada has two addresses: mail.zohocloud.ca, where Canadian accounts open, and mail.zoho.ca, which also answers.
How to tell which one you are on
Open your inbox and look at the address bar. The part after mail. is your data centre: mail.zoho.eu means the EU, mail.zohocloud.ca means Canada. That is the whole test.
If your company runs Zoho Mail on its own domain, as described in tracking Zoho Mail on a custom domain, your email address says nothing about the region. Only the address bar does.
The region is chosen when the organisation is created, usually from the country entered at sign-up. People rarely remember making that choice, which is why the question surprises them.
Why it matters more than it looks
Where your data lives. For teams with legal or contractual constraints on data location, the region is the whole point. An EU company on mail.zoho.eu keeps its mail in the EU.
Which tools work. Anything that runs inside the Zoho Mail page in your browser, such as an extension, has to recognise the page's address before it does anything. A tool built and tested on mail.zoho.com can be installed perfectly on an account at mail.zoho.sa and simply never appear. No error, no warning, just nothing.
Where integrations connect. Apps that connect to Zoho from outside also use regional addresses. An integration set up for the wrong region fails to sign in, which at least tells you something is wrong.
The gap a Canadian user found
In September a mailcheck user in Canada wrote to us: the Tracking ON switch never appeared in their compose window. They had diagnosed it before writing, and they were right. Their mailbox lived on mail.zohocloud.ca, and our extension only knew three Zoho addresses: zoho.com, zoho.eu and zoho.in.
Checking every region against the addresses Zoho actually serves showed that ten of the thirteen were missing. That is the uncomfortable part of a silent failure: it produces silence, not support tickets.
The fix ships in version 0.1.5 of the extension. mailcheck now recognises all thirteen addresses in the table above, and so does the filter that stops your own rereads from counting as opens. The list comes from checking which Zoho Mail addresses exist, not from memory.
If a tool does nothing on your Zoho account
- Read your address bar and note the exact domain.
- Look for it in the tool's documentation. Vendors often write "Zoho supported" when they mean mail.zoho.com.
- Write to the vendor with the exact domain. "It does not work in Zoho" gets a generic answer. "It does not load on mail.zoho.sa" gets a fix.
For mailcheck, the switch appears next to the Send button when you write a new message. If it does not, the contact form reaches the people who build the extension, and the domain in your address bar is the first thing we will ask for.
Conclusion
Zoho's regions are invisible until something depends on them. Your data centre is one glance at the address bar away, and it is worth knowing: it decides where your mail lives and which browser tools can see your inbox at all.
Frequently asked questions
Can I move my Zoho account to another data centre?
Not from your settings. The region is set when the organisation is created. If you have a legal reason to move, Zoho's own support is the one to ask whether it is possible.
Is Zoho Mail the same product in every region?
The product and the interface are the same. What differs is where your data is stored and the addresses you use to reach it.
Does the region change how email tracking works?
No. The tracking image and the notifications work the same way everywhere. The extension only has to recognise your mailbox's address.
My email address is on my company domain. Which region am I on?
Your email address does not tell you. Open your inbox and read the address bar: the domain after "mail." is your region.
