How to Install an Email Tracker in Chrome (and Check It Works)

Installing an email tracker in Chrome takes about two minutes. The part people skip is checking that it actually works before relying on it for an important email. Here are the steps, from install to a verified first open.
Table of contents
1. Install the email tracker Chrome extension
Open the extension's page on the Chrome Web Store and click "Add to Chrome", then confirm. Pin it to the toolbar with the puzzle icon, so you can see it at a glance. It also works in Brave, Arc and Edge, which accept Chrome extensions; see email tracking in Chrome, Brave and Arc.
2. Connect your account
Click the extension icon and sign in, with Google or with your email address. The extension then knows which tracked emails are yours, and your opens appear in your dashboard as well as in notifications.
3. Send your first tracked email
Open your webmail, Gmail, Outlook.com, Zoho Mail, Hostinger Mail, Mail Orange or SFR Mail, and start a new message. A small mailcheck bar appears in the compose window with a Tracking ON switch, and Clicks ON if you want link tracking. Write your email and send it as usual.
4. Check that it works
The reliable test is to send a tracked email to another address you own, on a different device, for example your phone. Open it there: within a minute, the open shows up in your notifications and dashboard. Do not test by opening the email in your own sent folder: mailcheck deliberately ignores your own opens. The full method is in how to test email tracking.
If the switch does not appear
- Reload the webmail tab after installing.
- Check that you are on a supported webmail address, for example outlook.live.com for Outlook.com.
- For Mail Orange, write the email in rich text: plain text cannot carry the tracking image.
- Still nothing? Tell us through the contact form, with the address of your webmail.
Conclusion
Two minutes to install, one minute to test, and you know your email tracker works before the email that matters. From then on, every email with Tracking ON tells you when it is opened.
