Ask Claude About Your Email Opens

A dashboard answers the questions its designer thought of. "How long does it usually take before someone opens my email" is not one of them, in any tool we have used. mailcheck exposes your tracking data through an MCP connector, so you can ask that question in plain words instead of building a report.

The question a dashboard cannot answer

Every tracking dashboard shows the same three things: a list of emails, a count, and a rate. They are useful and they are fixed. The moment your question does not match a column, you are exporting a CSV and opening a spreadsheet.

Yet the questions that actually help are usually specific and one off. Which contacts opened something more than twice this month but never replied. Whether Tuesday mornings really are better than Thursday afternoons for you. How long your average prospect takes before the first open, which is the number that should decide when you follow up.

None of those is a column. All of them are one sentence.

What MCP is, briefly

The Model Context Protocol is a standard way for an AI assistant to reach a data source directly, rather than you copying data into a chat window. The assistant asks the connector for what it needs, the connector answers, and nothing leaves your account except in response to your own question.

Practically, it means you add one URL in your assistant's settings and then talk to your own tracking data.

Connecting it

Open your assistant's settings, find connectors, and add:

https://mcp.getmailcheck.com

You will be asked to authorise it with your mailcheck account, through a standard OAuth screen. The authorisation is scoped to your account and can be revoked at any time from the same place. Details are on the connector page.

It is available on paid plans. The dashboard and the CSV export stay available to everyone.

Five questions worth asking

  • "What is my open rate this month, and how does it compare with last month?" The one a dashboard does answer, useful as a sanity check that the connection works.
  • "How long does it usually take before someone opens my email?" The answer is often a couple of hours, which tells you that a follow-up sent the next morning is not too early.
  • "Who has not opened anything I sent in the last two weeks?" A list to act on rather than a number to look at.
  • "Which recipients opened more than three times without replying?" The most interesting people in your pipeline, and the hardest to spot by scrolling.
  • "Did anything I sent to this company get opened after our call?" Narrow, specific, and exactly the kind of question you would never build a report for.

What it can and cannot reach

It reaches what the dashboard shows: your tracked emails, their subjects and recipients, send times, and every open with its timestamp.

It does not reach the body of your emails, because we never store it. It does not reach anyone else's data. And it cannot see your inbox: mailcheck only ever knows about messages you chose to track, as set out in what we store and what we never see.

Why it is read only

The connector can answer questions. It cannot send an email, delete a record, or change a setting.

That is deliberate. An assistant with write access to your mail tooling is a much larger promise than an assistant that can read a table, and the failure modes are not symmetrical: a wrong answer wastes a minute, a wrong action sends something to a client. Until that gap narrows, reading is the right scope.

Conclusion

The value is not that an assistant is smarter than a dashboard. It is that you can ask a question nobody anticipated, get an answer in ten seconds, and move on without building anything.

Most of the questions worth asking about your own email are asked once. That is exactly the kind of question software is bad at and conversation is good at.

Frequently asked questions

Which assistants does it work with?

Any that supports MCP connectors. Claude is the one we test against.

Does connecting it give the assistant access to my inbox?

No. It reaches your mailcheck tracking data only, which never includes the content of your emails.

Can I revoke access?

Yes, from your assistant's connector settings, at any time, without affecting your tracking.

Is it included in the free plan?

No, it is part of the paid plans. Tracking and CSV export are free.

Can it send follow-ups for me?

No. It is read only by design, for the reasons above. Drafting a follow-up is a separate feature, gated per email.

Start with the tracking

The connector is only useful once there is data behind it. Install mailcheck, track ten emails free this month, and connect it when you have something to ask.
